Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I thought that I would give my opinion on a cute idea for a date for all those students on campus! The theme for the evening? A Dinner with the Stars.
First off is a visit to the Campus Observatory. Located on the fifth floor of CCIS (the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science), the Observatory gives you a unique opportunity to get a closer look at our galaxy. Not only will you get to look up at the stars, but looking down will also give you a fantastic view of Quad. Since the Observatory is partially outside, it does get kinda chilly up on the rooftop so bringing some hot chocolate to share might be a stellar idea!
An important thing to remember is that the Observatory is only open to the public on Thursday evenings, an hour after sunset (which translates to 6-7 p.m. in February). Unfortunately this means that you’ll be celebrating a day early, but at least that lets you beat the Valentine’s day crowd! (Just make sure to double check their Facebook page to make sure that the skies aren’t too cloudy.)
Next up is a moonlit walk through Quad. During the day, Quad is usually bustling with activity as student groups host barbecues or other events. However, during the evening, Quad becomes a quiet wonderland for you and your date. But don’t take too long or you’ll miss the best part of the evening – dinner!
Leva is the perfect way to top off your dinner with the stars! Rumor has it that when Brad Pitt was filming the Assassination of Jesse James, he and Angelina Jolie would spend some quality time at Leva.
Since it’s only a block away from the U of A’s TELUS Centre, Leva is also a popular meeting spot for students to grab coffee and snacks during the day. But my favourite part of Leva is the dinner they serve. Nothing beats Neapolitan pizza and a steamy cup of coffee (or tea if you swing that way). My personal favorites at Leva are the following :
And of course, you can’t finish your date without one of their delectable desserts. Whether it’s simply gelato, or a tasty tiramisu, you definitely need to save some room! I hope you have a wonderful evening!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
